October 2017, Lima - Peru

On the 17th and 18th of October, Copeme with the support of ADA, carried out in Lima the workshop "Strengthening the Resilience of Organizations: Disaster Risk Management, Natural and Socio-Natural Threats". 29 representatives of MFIs (cooperatives, NGOs, finance companies), sector investors (Rabobank, Root Capital) and rating companies (Microfinanza Rating) as well as independent consultants participated.

During these two days, participants were able to discover the fundamentals of environmental risk management for MFIs and to carry out group exercises to familiarize themselves with techniques and tools to evaluate and measure the level of exposure to this type of risk, and establish policies and institutional practices accordingly.

This type of workshop is of particular importance in regions such as Peru where, in 2017, the El Niño phenomenon destroyed 2,629 kilometers of roads, affected about 198,000 homes and destroyed more than ten thousand hectares of cultivation while affecting between 6,000 and 7,000 farmers, 80% of whom are small producers.
