Visas

An entry visa is required of all non-residents to Burkina Faso, with the exception of WAEMU member states (Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo).

Once you are officially registered for the SAM and have paid the fee, you will receive your entry ticket by email. Then, you can begin making visa arrangements. There are 3 options on how to proceed with the visa process:

1. You are a Burkinabe citizen: you do not need a visa to take part in the SAM. Following your registration, you will receive an invitation letter by email within 15 days that you should present at Ouagadougou airport on the day of your arrival if you travel by plane, in addition to your entrance ticket for the SAM. If you go directly to the conference, you will only need to bring your entrance ticket.

2. You are a member of the WAEMU (Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal or Togo): you do not need a visa to take part in the SAM. Following your registration, you will receive an invitation letter by email within 15 days that you should present at Ouagadougou airport on the day of your arrival, in addition to your entrance ticket for the SAM.

3. You are neither Burkinabe nor a member of the WAEMUthere are two options to proceed with the visa process:

  • You live in a country with a Burkinabe embassy: following your registration, you will receive an invitation letter by email within 15 days. You will then have to go to the Burkinabe embassy in your country to ask for your visa. Remember to bring with you:
    - your invitation letter
    - your entrance ticket for the SAM
    - a valid passport for at least 6 months
    - 2 handwritten visa application forms, which you can either fill in on site or download in advance from your embassy's website
    - 2 passport photos (scanned photos are not accepted)
Visa application forms can be sent by registered post to the embassy of your country, which declines any responsibility in case of delay or loss of your file.
  • You live in a country without a Burkinabe embassy: following your registration, you will receive an invitation letter by email within 15 days that you should present at Ouagadougou airport on the day of your arrival, in addition to your entrance ticket for the SAM and your hotel reservation.
