Training workshop in agricultural finance

Description and objectives

The growth of agricultural markets worldwide, particularly in developing countries, is undeniable. Many actors involved in these growing agricultural markets, including rural households and small farmers, need a variety of financial services to enable them to seize economic opportunities. This global trend makes the agricultural sector increasingly attractive to financial institutions.
This training presents the opportunities and challenges of agricultural financing in the context of West and Central Africa and aims to:

  • raise awareness among participants of the main issues related to the financing of agriculture in West and Central Africa;
  • define the concept, context and approach to financing agricultural value chains;
  • present the principles, methods, tools and other resources that enable participants from financial institutions to design and disseminate
  • agricultural finance products in an innovative, cost-effective and sustainable manner;
  • illustrate the main issues involved in the development of agricultural finance products, and analyse some models of collaboration between the public and private sectors;
  • be eligible to apply for the one-year coaching project.
