In 2012, the Social Performance Task Force published the Universal Standards for Social Performance Management, based on a consultative process that brought together several hundred representatives of the inclusive finance sector. These Universal Standards, created by and for industry players, bring together good management practices to enable financial service providers to achieve their social mission. In 2014, the SPI4 social audit tool developed by Cerise is fully aligned with these standards, allowing financial service providers to assess their social performance management practices, identify their strengths and weaknesses and target possible areas for improvement.

Thus, since 2014, Cerise has been centralizing in a database the SPI4 audits carried out by the institutions that it has received. In 2018, ADA and Cerise joined forces to analyze this database and conduct a study on the current state of social performance assessment and management practices. In particular, the study focuses on the profile of financial service providers suitable for social audit, the main strengths and weaknesses of these actors in terms of social performance management, and the potential synergies between social, financial and environmental performance.
