The introductory e-learning session of the 2023 edition of the Agricultural and Rural Finance (FAR) training course started on Monday, 27 March, and will continue for four weeks. Interest in the course remains strong with almost 600 applications in a fortnight. This shows the need and interest in strengthening financing skills in the agricultural sector. 145 of the applicants were selected to participate in the e-learning session.

The participants from 34 African countries are gathered on 2 FAO Academy platforms, one in French and one in English. 60% are senior or operational managers of financial institutions and 40% are representatives of public bodies, fintechs or insurance companies. All of them convinced the selection committee of their motivation to develop financial products and services for the agricultural sector in Africa.

The programme, organised in partnership between ADA, MAEE and FAO, aims to provide a unique space to explore, reflect and exchange ideas and strategies for financing the agricultural sector in Africa. The five self-paced modules on the platform require 5-10 working hours per week and cover financial products, markets and risk management strategies. In addition to the modules, this year's webinars will focus on climate finance, agroforestry, investing in agriculture and making business plans.

The 40 most assiduous participants in the introductory e-learning session will receive a scholarship to attend the in-depth, face-to-face session from 9 to 14 October 2023 in Lomé, Togo, the week before the African Microfinance Week (SAM) 2023.
