SSNUP - a blended agricultural finance mechanism

02 September 2022

SSNUP is a good example of blended finance (when public financing is used to boost private sector investments) as the programme is financed by the Swiss, Luxembourgish and Liechtenstein governments with the aim of encouraging more investments from private investors in agri-SMEs and agricultural value chains in general.

In practice, the SSNUP partners provide technical assistance to agricultural SMEs, farmers’ cooperatives, and rural microfinance institutions to strengthen their business models with the ultimate aim of helping them to de-risk their operations to attract private investors.

SSNUP identified as a key agri-SME supporter in ISF report

SSNUP has therefore been identified as a key blended finance mechanism by the financial advisory group ISF in a March 2022 report on ‘The state of the agri-SME sector – Bridging the finance gap’.
